Welcome to Fourth Grade!! I am looking forward to a great year!

Some Reminders:

Wednesday, November 18, 2009 is an early dismissal day.

Progress reports will go home Wednesday, November 18th.

Book orders are due by Friday, November 20th.

Ballet money ($1.00) is due by Friday, November 20th.

An encore performance of 4th grade's Poetry Coffee House will be Friday, November 20th at 2:00pm.

   

This Week

 

Science: continue working with electricity this week.  Students will construct and compare series and parallel circuits and continue to develop ideas about electricity through the interplay between what they know about the flow of electricity and trial-and-error experiences making circuits work.

 

Math: Continue working with multiplication and division: explore the meaning of division and the relationship between multiplication and division, solve multiplication and division problems with/without remainders, solve problems in more than one way, and create story problems for given equations.  Unit 2 benchmark test will be Friday, November 20th.

 

Language/spelling: action verbs: rules for present, past, and future tense, subject-verb agreement; how to punctuate quotes; words with /ur/

 

Reading: story next week: Roadrunner’s Dance, skill focus: making inferences, generating questions, identify author’s purpose; Folk Tale: read “Trickster Tale” and discuss foreshadowing and symbolism; vocabulary strategy: using context clues; Using a thesaurus/synonyms

 

Social Studies: Finish research of a cultural item; begin researching famous immigrants that made significant historical contributions.
