About Our School

Our Program
Forest Heights Performing Arts Magnet SchoolForest Heights Academy of Excellence is an academic/visual & performing arts magnet school.  Our school serves students in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade.   This academic magnet program offers a student-centered curriculum in an atmosphere where each child develops academically, physically, socially and emotionally.  The school emphasizes a strong core-curriculum with opportunity for development of individual needs and talents using varied teaching styles and strategies.

Our Arts Program is an integral part of the curriculum.  This program includes art, dance, drama, instrumental and vocal music.  We also provide instruction in Creative Writing and Spanish.

BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL

Forest Heights Academy of Excellence was very excited to have been named a 2008 No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon School.  This award recognizes our efforts to ensure that every child learns and no child is left behind.  The Blue Ribbon School distinction award is the highest honor the federal government bestows on schools throughout the country.

For a public school to win, student achievement must be in the top 10 percent on state standardized tests or at least 40 percent of the school's population, from disadvantaged backgrounds, must dramatically improve on those tests.  We were honored at an awards ceremony in Washington D. C. in October 2008 hosted by the United States Secretary of Education, Margaret Spellings.

WELCOME TO SCHOOL SUCCESS

Admission Requirements
Performing ArtsStudents must be performing on or above grade level in reading and math as determined by assessment test, report cards and/or teacher recommendation.  Students must also have a 2.5 overall grade point average.  Kindergarten students will be tested to determine eligibility.
Learning Through Videoconferencing
Students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 are enjoying the videoconferencing sessions which are available to us.  This new teaching tool is taking our students on many exciting adventures.

Our students have been able to visit with educators from the Lee Richardson Zoo in Kansas, NASA and the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.  We also have some classes that work on projects with students from other schools across the United States.
