Our Scholastic Book Fair will be Wednesday, Oct. 7 - Friday, Oct. 9.  The fair will open at 9:00 a.m. each day. 

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, students will be given a schedule as to when their grade level will be visiting the fair.  They will also receive a flyer with information concerning some of the items available at the fair. 

All families are invited to attend the fair.  We will also have some information and ideas for parents on how to help their child become a better reader.   

This year our students in Grades 2-5 will be using the online Accelerated Reader Program provided by Renaissance Learning.  This program offers thousands of tests for students to take in order to improve their reading comprehension and vocabulary skills.  Also, students will be able to take a test on the selections they are reading in class from their readers. 

Parents will be able to monitor their child's progress through the Home Connect Program of Renaissance Learning.  Each child in Grades 2-5 will bring home a letter to explain this new program.  The letter will include your child's log-in information so parents can access the program.  It will also give some instructions on how parents can sign up to receive an e-mail whenever their child takes an Accelerated Reader Quiz.

Please encourage your child to read each day.  Reading is the key to success in every subject. 

Louisiana Young Readers' Choice Program is a reading program sponsored by the State Library of Louisiana.    This program has a list of books for students in Grades 3-5 to read.  Students must read a minimum of three books to participate in the program.  At the end of January, children in our state who have read at least three books will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite book. 

Our students who have met the requirements of the program will vote on their favorite book on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010.  We will send our votes to the State Library of Louisiana.  These students will also receive a treat bag for participating in the program.
