We are now studying nursery rhymes. We will be reading: Humpty Dumpty, Hey Diddle Diddle, Old King Cole, etc.

At Home Connection:

Your child will bring home paper books from our phonics (Open Court) series. These books are for you to read with your child each night. When your child reads their book to you, make sure he/she points under each word as he/she reads it. Then you can keep the books and place them in your child’s library.

Help your child locate the sight words (i.e. the, a, an, here, I see, and, we, is, she, he, etc.) in these books. Also locate these words in other books, in magazines, or on signs. Make flash cards. Show lots of excitement when your child reads some of their new words! Have fun with it!

We are reviewing the calendar (numbers, days of the week, months of the year) and learning to tell time to the hour.

We are also learning to recognize coins and their values. We are learning about the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter.

We are also adding.

At Home Connection:

Incorporate the time and day into your conversations. Allow your child to name the coins in your wallet.

We are also learning about the earth and sky. We will be looking at maps, globes, the sky, the moon, and the stars.

At Home Connection: Talk with your child about the daily weather. Also, talk about what you see in the sky at night and during the day. Talk about the different stars and moon phases.

We are learning how we get the things we need (such as money, jobs, etc.).

At Home Connection: Discuss your job with your child. What is your child's job while at home?
