Dear parents,
Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year! I know that this will be a positive year for your child as we build on past successes and learn new things in third grade. With home and school working together, your child’s academic and social skills will become stronger throughout the year. I am extremely excited to have your child in my class, and I look forward to working closely with him or her this school year. To begin our partnership in your child’s education, I want to share some important information about our class.
How can my child be successful in Ms. Roy’s third grade class?
1. Your child should READ! Students will be reading in class and for homework, but please encourage them to read more. Reading every night will help to improve your child’s vocabulary, writing skills, and reading skills. In addition to classroom reading homework assignments, your child will have 20 minutes of required “pleasure reading” each night. Students can choose their own book selection for this daily activity as they gain enjoyment in the reading process.
2. Your child should complete every homework assignment. The homework is designed to allow students to practice what they have learned in class. Without participation in homework assignments, your child’s classroom grades will suffer. If your child has any problems with the assignment, please let me know.
3. Each child should follow classroom rules. Following our rules will allow the class to run smoothly and will provide us with as much learning time as possible. Our classroom discipline plan is attached. Please review this plan with your child.
How will I know what is happening in Ms. Roy’s third grade class?
1. Homework folders will be sent home daily with each student. These folders will contain homework sheets, daily conduct grades, and any important notes from the school.
2. If your have any questions or concerns, please contact me at the school to set up a meeting.
